The controversy stems from the Ye’s resolution to completely launch Donda 2 on his personal proprietary Stem Participant gadget. The bundling of the participant and the album is in violation of Billboard charts’ merchandise bundle coverage, which disqualifies albums that come bundled with bodily merchandise.
Billboard introduced the bundling rule again in 2020, stating that promoting merchandise together with a bodily album or digital album obtain (typically a free obtain) as a method to increase album gross sales numbers would skew gross sales numbers.
